Shetland – The Border of Farming 4000 - 3000 b.o.e.
The islands are the ultimate Northern border for the Neolithic expansion 4000 b.o.e. The Neolithic societies brought all the elements of a farming society to the islands: Megaliths, polished tools, ornamented ceramics, sacred enclosures and iconography. In this respect the societies were part of the economic and ideological communities from Malta in the South to the Norwegian border in the North. The archaeological material mirrors the Scandinavian and will develop our understanding of the processes around 4000 b.o.e.
