As a young archaeology student Jørgens Meldgaard directed his first expedition in 1952 to the Nuuk Fiord (back then named The Godthaab Fiord). With a team of young researchers including the eskimology student Inge Kleivan, ethnology student George nellemann, the Canadian archaeologist Claude DesGoffes and different local assistants the team mapped the numerous settlements alongside the fiord and made test trenches at several of the sites. Jørgen Meldgaard filmed the expedition and pieces of the material can be seen here.
