The Norse arrived in Greenland with a several thousand years old tradition as farmers – how did they adapt to the new environment? Focus will be on the Norse farming through analysis of macro fossils from middens; did they cultivate crops – and if so, what did they grow?  Phosphate analysis of the soil around Norse farmsteads shall describe the use of manure.
